WRITING A PROCEDURE TEXT



Hi guys! How are you? Hopefully you are all great! 

By the way guys, have you ever think how was something being made? 

For example, do you know how your mom cooked a plate of fried rice for your breakfast? 






Or do you know how your favorite cake is made?

 

Well, if you curious with such of things, now it’s the right time to find it out! 
We will learn how to write a procedure text right now.  



What is Procedure Text?
Procedure text is a text that gives us instructions for doing something. The purpose of a procedure text is to explain how something can be done.


What are the generic structures of a procedure text?
The generic structures of a procedure text are:
·       An introductory statement that gives the goal.
·       A list of materials that will be needed for completing the procedure.
·       A sequence of steps in the order they need to be done.


What are the language features of a procedure text?
The language features of a procedure text are:
·       The use of technical words.
For example:
-        Boil, fry, blend  (cooking)
-        Click, cut, copy (computer)

·       Sentences begin with verbs and are stated as command. 
For example:
-        Pour the milk into the glass.
-        Turn off the stove.

·       The use of time words or numbers in the order for doing the procedure.
For example: First, second, next, then, etc.

·       The use of adverbs to tell how the action should be done.
For example:
-        Stir the dough slowly.
-        Carefully, separate the yolk from the white.

How was that? Actually it is easy to make a glass of milkshake if we know the steps, isn't it?

HOW TO MAKE MILKSHAKE

To make a glass of delicious milkshake you will need:
·         4 scopes of ice cream
·         Ice cream scoop
·         Blender
·         1-2 tablespoon flavored syrup
·         1/2 cup of milk
·         A large glass
·         Straw
Then, follow these simple steps:
·         Scoop your ice cream into the blender.
·         Pour the syrup and milk into the blender.
·         Put the top of the blender and blend on the medium speed until it smooth and creamy.
·         Pour the milkshake into a large glass.
·         Drop in the straw.

Now guys, I'll tell you something. To write a procedure text, you may need some of these verbs to give instruction or command:
·         scoop 
·         pour 
·         blend 
·         drop
·         add
·         peel
·         etc. 
For example:
·         Scoop the ice cream.
·         Pour the water.
·         Blend the materials.
·         etc.

Do this small exercise for your practice in writing instruction and command

In Indonesian, we call it telur goreng.
I want you to imagine the steps that we should do to make an omelette.

Below, I will prepare the material that we need to make a plate of omelette. Your job is to write the steps. Don’t worry, I will provide some pictures to help you.



How to Make a Plate of Omelette
To make a plate of omelette, you will need:
·         2 to 3 eggs
·         Dash of milk
·         Butter/Cooking Oil
·         Salt
·         a bowl
·         a fork
·         a stove
·         a frying pan
·         a spatula
·         a plate

- the website is good. it is colorful, the instructions are also very clear to be understood.
- i like your attachment of exercise you make. it is useful for the students.
- you also attach a video of procedure text. it will help your students to understand the material.

- pay attention with the link of exercise you attach to your blog. both of the exercises are just the same.
- the exercises still hasn't been enough yet.

- you may choose a more colorful template of your blog.
- you can add some more exercises to make the students comprehend the materials.

Strengths
1. attractive look of the website
2. interesting video and pictures
3. good material with clear explanation and instruction
4. good exercises for the students

Weaknesses:
1. the exercises are too few.

Suggestions :
1. maybe you can put an exercise like the second one but the students are making something from a series of pictures, so it is not just write a proper instruction.

- The pictures and video are interesting
- The exercises are also good

- Lack of explanation

Suggestion:
- You may add more explanation, for example give more explanation what technical language is, the example, etc.
- Maybe you can also teach about vocabulary dealing with the material.

- Appropiate and good quiz

Weaknesses:
- The material/expalnation is too short

Suggestion:
- You had better add more material, such as list of difficult words since your blog is focusing on writing.

The materials and the audio visuals/media of your website are attractive. There are some pictures and video to attract the students to learn more about writing.

However, it seems more attractive if you change your template of your website to become more colorful.
It will be better, if you can give some draft first before you ask students to write procedure text with any topic.
